Fulham must surely fear the worst after what Premier League rivals are planning

Fulham have started the season in an inconsistent fashion and look set for another mid-table finish in the Premier League.

The Cottagers have gone a goal up and still lost in each of their last Premier League fixtures away from home.

First came Fulham’s 3-1 loss to Aston Villa, a game in which Josh King impressed Jamie Redknapp with his showing at Villa Park.

Raul Jimenez went off injured in that game after giving Fulham the lead, but goals from Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Buendia and John McGinn gave Villa all three points.

A week later, Bournemouth beat Fulham 3-1, despite Fulham taking the lead through Ryan Sessegnon early in the second half.

Antoine Semenyo wowed Redknapp with his showing as the Ghanaian’s brace combined with Justin Kluivert’s impressive strike to give the Cherries the win.

Nottingham Forest interested in Fulham boss Marco Silva

Head coach Marco Silva was vocal about his discontent with the lack of summer transfer business that was done by the club.

In the short term, it has left the club with an injury crisis at striker, and light for cover in midfield for the injured Sasa Lukic, but long term it could have bigger impacts.

The Daily Mail have reported that Nottingham Forest have declared an interest in Silva, should they sack Ange Postecoglou, although a decision to appoint Silva wouldn’t happen until the end of the season.

Fulham’s summer transfer business was bleak

With discontent growing and the club appearing to remain stagnant in trying to improve the club’s standing on the pitch, it could be a matter of time before Silva jumps ship.

Fulham must back Silva in the transfer market

There is a degree of irony involved with Silva potentially leaving Fulham due to discontent over signings and joining Nottingham Forest – who sacked Nuno Espirito Santo due to a row with Edu Gaspar over a discontent with signings – but the Cottagers will be keen to stop their situation reaching that stage.

Closer to home, Fulham’s West London rivals, Chelsea, relieved Mauricio Pochettino from his role due to a disagreement over summer transfer plans as well, so the hierarchy at Craven Cottage will know there’s a precedent for this to happen in the Premier League.

When Fulham’s board invests in the market, they buy well, as indicated by the performances of Kevin since the Brazilian joined the club late in the transfer window.

They will need to show Silva they’re capable of spending in that way on a more regular basis, though if they’re to convince the Portuguese head coach not to depart the club next summer.
