Fulham star Antonee Robinson sends message to Crystal Palace ace Chris Richards

Fulham’s Antonee Robinson shared a message with Crystal Palace defender Chris Richards on social media.

The Eagles enjoyed one of the best seasons in their history last term, winning the FA Cup and claiming a place in Europe as a result.

But John Textor’s ownership of both Palace and French side Lyon has thrown their place in the Europa League into doubt.

UEFA‘s rules on multi-club ownership mean that both teams cannot compete in the same European competition, with the Ligue 1 side taking precedence on participation after finishing higher in their respective league.

Textor agreed to sell his shares to New York Jets owner Woody Johnson in a bid to help Palace convince the European governing body there will be no conflict of interest, but UEFA have delayed making a decision on the London club’s future in the competition after Lyon were relegated to Ligue 2 due to financial issues [The Athletic].

But during a summer of uncertainty, Eagles defender Richards has been enjoying a successful break, away from his club side, competing for the USA in the Gold Cup.

Richards played the full 90 minutes as the USA claimed a 2-1 victory over Guatemala, setting up a showdown with rivals Mexico in the Gold Cup final on 6 July.

The Palace defender shared an image celebrating with the scorer of both goals Diego Luna on Instagram, captioned: “One more game! See y’all in Houston to finish the job”.

Robinson, who is unable to participate alongside his fellow Premier League and USA colleague, having recently undergone surgery, commented: “One last push brother”.

Crystal Palace want Club World Cup star amid Euro uncertainty

Football Insider Verdict

The uncertainty regarding the Eagles’ participation next season’s Europa League seems to be having a knock-on affect on this summer’s transfer business, with the club yet to make a signing.

However, ex-England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Palace are interested in Fluminense star Jhon Arias.

The Colombian midfielder has impressed for the Brazilian Serie A side at the Club World Cup this summer, and ran the show in his team’s shock 2-0 upset win over Inter.

Palace considered making a move for Arias in January, but no deal came to fruition.

With Eberechi Eze potentially heading for the exit this summer, the Colombian would add a similar level of dynamism and creativity to Oliver Glasner’s side.
