Fulham starlet Carvalho ‘the future of Liverpool’ after source’s update – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Fulham starlet Fabi Carvalho can be “the future of Liverpool” ahead of a potential summer transfer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 19-year-old attacking midfielder fits into the “DNA” at Anfield.

As revealed by Football Insider on Thursday (20 January), Liverpool chiefs have already started work on a deal to sign the teenager when his contract expires this summer.

Chief scout Barry Hunter has run the rule over Carvalho and has given the green light to lay the foundations for a move.

Whelan suggested Carvalho could learn off the current Anfield stars and become a top performer in his own right in years to come.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think they’re looking to the longevity as well.

“Going that little bit younger, finding players that are going to fit into the style of Liverpool’s play is very important.

“I think they’ve got a DNA there that they play off and a certain player criteria to fit that. He’s obviously one of them.

“At 19-years-old, he’s going to be the future of Liverpool later on in time. Someone that’s going to learn from the attackers that they already have.

“That, to me, makes complete sense, looking at a player like that. He’s played in England already, knows the culture of English football.

“Someone that you can look at and think a few years down the line is going to be the finished article.”

Carvalho is also attracting strong interest from the likes of Leeds United, Southampton and West Ham.

He has scored seven goals in 16 Championship appearances this season.
