Tottenham player delivers verdict after extending spell at club to 20 years

Harry Winks is looking to justify Tottenham’s decision to award him with a new deal after the future star signed a new contract that keeps him at the club until 2022.
The 21-year-old has said on the official Tottenham Twitter page that he is now concentrating on improving and showing Mauricio Pochettino that he has what it takes to became a mainstay in the Spurs team for years to come.
The midfielder is a Spurs fan and has been with the club since the age of six. He has made 28 appearances for the first team since his debut in 2014 against Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League.
The deal extends his spell at White Hart Lane from 15 years to the 20-year mark.
“I’m over the moon to sign another contract with the club,” Winks said.
“I’ve got to keep working hard and keep improving like I always say when you’re rewarded with a new contract you’ve got to keep working and justify why you got that, so that’s my intention now.
“I’ve got to focus on the pitch now, focus on helping the team to get results and hopefully we can push on in these next few weeks, get maximum points and do really well.”
Winks has started six games for Spurs in all competitions this season and has made a further 15 off the bench.
In his first Premier League start of the season, Winks scored his first goal for the club in a 3-2 win over London rivals West Ham in November.
He is part of a number of young players to be performing well at White Hart Lane in recent seasons alongside the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Winks will now be hoping to get more minutes on the pitch for the first-team and gain more European experience when Spurs face Gent in the Europa League on Thursday night.
