Gabby Agbonlahor makes shock Bruno Fernandes admission as Man United exit looms

Gabby Agbonlahor has shared his take on Bruno Fernandes’ Manchester United situation amid transfer interest from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

Football Insider previously revealed that Al Hilal are prepared to offer £80million to Man United for the Portugal international.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Pro League club could pay Fernandes £700,000 per week, which could prove enough to prompt his Old Trafford exit.

Fernandes acted as a talisman for an otherwise poor Man United outfit, who finished just 15th in the Premier League, this term.

Fernandes is ‘coaching’ Man United teammates

Ruben Amorim’s men failed to win silverware this season, even though Fernandes notched an impressive return of 19 goals and 18 assists across all competitions.

When discussing the 30-year-old’s situation at Old Trafford live on talkSPORT [2 June], Agbonlahor said: “What I watch when I watch Fernandes is I see a player frustrated at the quality of some of the players.

“In some of the games, he’s coaching them.

“He’s like (Rasmus) Hojlund there, (Diogo) Dalot there. It’s like he’s a player and a coach at times, because the team is so poor.”

The Portugal international was unable to prevent the Red Devils’ Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, meaning Amorim’s side will not compete in next season’s Champions League.

Man United could sell Garnacho for £50m

If Fernandes leaves the North West, his Old Trafford exit would likely be the most high-profile Red Devils exit this summer, but Amorim is tasked with overseeing a major rebuild.

The 40-year-old is determined to sign players who suit his system, which was demonstrated when Man United acquired Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

But the Red Devils must also sell some of their current assets, while Alejandro Garnacho is an obvious candidate following his bust-up with Amorim.

Football finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that Man United could sell Garnacho for £50m after he has fallen out of favour.

The Argentina international does not suit Amorim’s wing-back system, similarly to fellow wideman Marcus Rashford, who enjoyed a fruitful loan spell with Aston Villa.

Garnacho has made a total of 144 appearances for the Red Devils since making his senior debut in the 2021/22 season, and has scored 26 goals.
