Gabby Agbonlahor mocked by pundit as Aston Villa thrashed by Crystal Palace

Aston Villa saw their trophy hopes after being beaten by Crystal Palace in the semi finals of the FA Cup, and their joint-record Premier League scorer quickly got a reaction from it.

While the season has been a remarkable one for Unai Emery‘s side, which has seen them compete on multiple fronts, they are at risk of coming up short.

Aston Villa were knocked out of the Champions League by PSG at the quarter final stages last week following a dramatic 5-4 defeat on aggregate.

Their hopes of qualifying for that competition via the Premier League were also dealt a blow with a stoppage time defeat to Man City at the Etihad on Tuesday (22 April).

Now the club’s FA Cup campaign has also been brought to an end without any silverware has been delivered, and Jamie O’Hara was quick to tease Gabby Agbonlahor about that.

Jamie O’Hara mocks fellow pundit after defeat

On Saturday (26 April), Emery’s side took on Crystal Palace at Wembley in the semi finals of the FA Cup, looking to secure their place in the final.

It would though turn into a dismal day for Aston Villa as Eberechi Eze’s opener and a brace from Ismaila Sarr secured a 3-0 win for the Eagles.

As Palace cruised to that victory, O’Hara was keen to rub the result in to his fellow talkSPORT pundit Agbonlahor.

Aston Villa last five gamesResult
Southampton (A)Won 3-0
PSG (H)Won 3-2 (lost on 5-4 aggregate)
Newcastle (H)Won 4-1
Man City (A)Lost 2-1
Crystal Palace (N)Lost 3-0

During his playing career, the former striker made almost 400 appearances for the club, and Agbonlahor remains open about his support for Aston Villa.

As the semi final entered its’ final stages, O’Hara took to X to tease the former striker, suggesting he is looking forward to mocking him on talkSPORT’s “Has anyone seen” feature in the wake of defeat.

The ex-Spurs man wrote: “Bro [Gabby] you ok?is it too early for has anyone seeeeeeeeen?”

Aston Villa go a step too far

Football Insider Verdict

It has been a challenging season for Emery’s side, who have had to compete on multiple fronts for so much of this season.

There have been plenty of demands on this Aston Villa team, who have had to play more matches than most of their squad would likely be used to.

That did seem to catch up with them in this game, as they struggled to live with the pace and intensity of Crystal Palace.

The defeat here is obviously going to be tough to take with the dreams of a trophy now over, although they can still be remarkably proud of some excellent runs in the cups this season.

Of course, there is still work to do for Aston Villa in the league as they aim to secure a return to European football.

But in the wake of this performance, there may now be some questions about whether the squad will have the fitness they need to achieve that.
