Gabriel Jesus and Bryan Mbeumo react to Brentford forward’s injury update

Brentford’s Igor Thiago has provided an injury update on social media which attracted reactions from some of the Premier League’s biggest stars.

The Brazilian forward joined Brentford in a club-record £30million deal last summer from Club Brugge [BBC], however has managed just 130 minutes across four appearances in his debut campaign.

Thiago first suffered a meniscus injury which ruled him out for 11 matches between August and November last year.

After slowly making his return to fitness in December, the 23-year-old injured his knee, which sidelined him for a further 17 games so far.

However, Thiago’s latest update suggests that he is close to being involved in Brentford’s match day squad in the coming weeks.

Igor Thiago is nearing a return to action for Brentford

In a post from Thiago’s official instagram account on Thursday (10 April), he shared a series of images which appeared to show him back in full-training with the caption of an hourglass emoji.

The young striker received reactions from some of the biggest stars in the Premier League, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, who is also suffering from a serious knee injury, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa all liking the post.

Igor Thiago has suggested that he is nearing a return to full fitness.

Brazilian to play a similar role to Ivan Toney under Thomas Frank

Football Insider Verdict

The idea behind Thomas Frank‘s decision to bring Thiago to the club following the departure of Ivan Toney was clear.

Both Toney and Thiago posses similar qualities in their ability to provide the team with a focal point in attack and their smart movement in order to create goalscoring opportunities for themselves.

Thiago won young player of the season in the UEFA Conference League, in addition to bagging 18 goals in 34 matches during Club Brugge’s title winning campaign last term.

Igor Thiago’s stats for Club Brugge
Games – 55
Goals – 29
Assists – 6
The forward notched 35 goal involvements in 55 games in Belgium.

Despite missing nearly the whole of his debut season in England, it’s clearly expected that Thiago will add another dimension to Brentford’s attacking options when fit.

From what the 23-year-old posted, it looks as if Brentford fans will get to see more of him soon, and quicker than initially expected.
