Gabriel Martinelli: Arsenal could ‘tweak system’ after behind-the-scenes update – Campbell
Mikel Arteta could be ready to make a tactical “tweak” at Arsenal with Gabriel Martinelli preparing to lead the line, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Gunners hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed a change in role for the 20-year-old could provide Arteta with a “plan B”.
According to football.london (13 February), Martinelli has been playing as a number nine during sessions at Arsenal’s London Colney training base.

The Brazillian has made most of his 71 Gunners appearances on the left wing,
Campbell claimed Martinelli has a long-term future as a centre-forward.
He also hinted that Arteta could look to play the youngster alongside Alexandre Lacazette.
“I think Arsenal would have to change the way they play if he were to lead the line,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“His strength is playing off the shoulder and running in behind. I think Mikel Arteta would have to tweak his system if Lacazette were to drop out of the side – or maybe he is to play with Martinelli in a two.
“Lacazette is so good with his back to goal, so they’re very different players. Martinelli isn’t as good at making the ball stick, and teams will know that. Teams are so good at taking away your strengths and focusing on your weaknesses in the Premier League.
“He will end up in that position later in his career, 100%. But for now, I think Arteta is just making sure he has a plan B if something were to happen to Lacazette.

“Maybe Martinelli can be that plan B.”
The youngster has returned seven goals from 12 games at striker during his time at the Emirates Stadium.
