Gaetano Berardi slams Leeds fans as he predicts tough times for Leeds

By Russell Edge

Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi has said he expects the club to face some tough challenges over the coming month but has criticised the fans for their negative chants.

The Whites have been on a poor run of form recently, having lost three successive games to Cardiff City, Sheffield Wednesday and Reading, which means they have suffered four losses in five games.

It comes after having gone their opening seven league matches unbeaten, which saw them rocket to the top of the Championship table, but now find themselves sixth, six points off league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, Berardi insists that the tough times are not going to come to an end any time soon, predicting a difficult November for the club.

They have to play Brentford, Middlesbrough, Wolves and Barnsley next month, although only the table toppers sit above the Whites in the table.

He also took aim at the club’s supporters, insisting that their negative chants do not help the team, and urged them to remain positive despite their recent form.

The 29-year-old Italian told LUTV, available on the club’s website: “This is a hard league, anyone can win or lose against each other and we have another difficult month coming up now.

“We need to be ready and be positive, we are in a bad moment now, but we have to try and win our next game.

“It’s nice to see the stadium full and we need to take some good results – we would like to hear them more positive because I could hear some bad things during the game.

“Everyone has to be positive. The players, the staff, everyone in the crowd.”

Berardi began the season out of the first team squad at Elland Road but has featured frequently in recent weeks, making seven appearances across all competitions so far.

He has 89 Leeds appearances under his belt but despite notching up five assists he is yet to find the back of the net.
