‘More garbage’, ‘Most pointless signing ever’ – Aston Villa fans react on Twitter as 29-year-old signs
By Matt Bullin
Aston Villa fans are divided on Twitter over whether signing Ahmed Elmohamady from Hull City is a good piece of business or not.
The 29-year-old right-sided midfielder has penned a three-year deal at Villa Park, and he arrives for an undisclosed fee.
The Midlands giants announced the news on their official website and on their official Twitter account on Wednesday morning.
Elmohamady becomes Villans manager Steve Bruce’s third signing of the summer as he follows Sam Johnstone and John Terry through the doors at Villa Park.
Bruce is known to be keen on the 29-year-old and this is the third time he has brought him onboard, having previously signed him at Sunderland and Hull.
The Egyptian international was a mainstay in the Tigers’ side last term, making 37 appearances across all competitions, but he was unable to arrest the club’s slide into the Championship.
Sections of the Villa Park faithful were happy to see Elmohamady arrive, while others believed him to be a poor signing.
Here are a selection of the best messages on Twitter.
Elmohamady is able to play confidently at both right-back and in right-midfield, which makes him a useful squad player for Bruce.
He has been capped by Egypt on 73 occasions, and he featured for the full 90 minutes as his nation beat Togo 3-0 in an international friendly in March of this year.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, they have taken a Premier League veteran on trial.
