Garry Monk delivers no-holds-barred verdict after Leeds defeat against Cardiff

By Amir Mir

Garry Monk has stated that his Leeds players have “something new” to learn from following their “frustrating” 2-0 defeat against Cardiff on Saturday afternoon.

The Championship promotion hopefuls saw two second-half goals from Sean Morrison and Kenneth Zohore condemn them to their first defeat at home since November.

The Whites have now suffered back-to-back defeats after dropping points against rivals Huddersfield last time out.

This has dented the club’s promotion charge, but they do remain in fifth despite losing to the Welsh club.

After the game, Monk delivered a no-holds-barred assessment of the club’s display as posted on his personal Twitter account.

“Frustrating result, something new for the group to learn from and show the right improvements in the next game,” said Monk.

Monk’s side have recorded 54 points from their 31 games this term, they are three points behind fourth-placed Reading and four points behind third-placed Huddersfield.

However, the Yorkshire club will be looking over their shoulders as seventh-placed Norwich are only five points behind following their 5-1 thumping of Nottingham Forest.

Leeds will be looking to bounce back from their last two damaging defeats when they take on Bristol City in front of their own supporters on Tuesday night.

Lee Johnson’s side recorded a 3-3 draw at promotion hopefuls Derby on Saturday, but they will be bitterly disappointed after going into the break with a 3-0 lead.

The Robins will be looking to do the double over Monk’s team after beating their midweek opponents 1-0 during the reverse fixture in September.
