Garry Monk delivers Twitter message to Leeds fans after defeat v Huddersfield
By Matt Farr
Leeds manager Garry Monk delivered an honest verdict on Twitter of his side’s performance during their defeat to Huddersfield on Sunday.
An 89th-minute strike from Michael Hefele secured a dramatic late victory for Huddersfield, and resigned Leeds to their second defeat in four games.
The defeat did not prove to be too much of a dent in Leeds’ promotion hopes, as it still leaves them with an eight-point lead over seventh-placed Norwich, but it would have been nice to get one over their promotion rivals.
An altercation between Monk and his opposite number David Wagner did perhaps overshadow proceedings, with both managers dismissed to the stands in an incident that also saw three players booked.
However, reflecting on the game on his personal Twitter account on Sunday afternoon, Monk remained tight-lipped on the incident, instead focusing on the on-field events.
He expressed some sympathy for his team, insisting that they did not deserve to lose the game. But he added that he and the team will continue to work hard and ensure they are ready for any challenges they are to face over the remainder of the campaign.
Despite sacrificing a chance to go within three points of second-placed Brighton, Leeds are still in a very good position in pursuit of their promotion goal.
Few expected Leeds to be in this position at the start of the season, and credit must go to Monk for how he has transformed the club over the course of the season.
That can be said regardless of Leeds’ success this season, but it will be made all the more sweeter if they can earn the right to play their football next season in the Premier League.
