Garry Monk delivers verdict on Neil Warnock ahead of Leeds clash v Cardiff
By Will Butcher
Garry Monk has praised manager Neil Warnock as he prepares his Leeds side to face Cardiff at Elland Road on Saturday.
Warnock managed Leeds between 2012 and 2013 in which he won just 23 of his 63 matches in charge, lasting a little over 12 months in the job.
Now, Warnock returns to Elland Road with Welsh giants Cardiff and Monk was quoted on Leeds’ official Twitter account as saying that Warnock is an “experienced manager”.
“Neil Warnock is a very experienced manager,” Monk declared. “He has managed here before and we have to be ready on Saturday.”
Since managing Leeds, Warnock has gone on to extend his managerial exploits with Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers and Rotherham United as well as Cardiff.
After taking over in early October from departing manager Paul Trollope, Warnock has gone on to win eight of his 20 games in charge.
Leeds will fancy their chances against rivals Cardiff, after Warnock has watched his side lose three of their last four games against the likes of Reading, Brighton and Norwich.
However, Leeds’ promotion chase has taken a slight hit in recent games after suffering losses to Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield and Barnsley.
A win for Monk and Leeds over former manager Warnock could see the Yorkshire giants climb as high as third place in the Championship table.
However, they will be counting on Barnsley to beat Reading and QPR to snatch three points from Huddersfield if they are to climb to the highest play-off spot.
In other Leeds news, Max Gradel could be one of five new signings made by Monk if the Whites gain promotion.
