Garry Monk posts Twitter message after Leeds triumph, gives verdict on fans
By Will Butcher
Garry Monk has lauded the Elland Road support after securing a 2-1 home victory against Bristol City on Tuesday night.
The former Swansea boss watched from the dugout as his side edged past Lee Johnson’s City thanks to goals from Chris Wood and Pablo Hernandez.
Posting on his personal Twitter account, Monk claimed that it is “easier” to secure victory with Elland Road’s “great support” behind his star players.
Leeds took the lead in the first half through top scorer Chris Wood, who latched on to a quick free kick from Hernandez to finish calmly from eight yards out.
Spaniard Hernandez then got his own name on the score sheet, with his deflected effort wrong-footing City goalkeeper Fabian Giefer to double Leeds’ advantage.
Milan Djuric scored a consolation for City with the last action of the match, securing a third league win in five games for Monk’s side as they consolidate their place in the playoffs.
Leeds’ 19th Championship win of the season leaves them in fifth place and eight points off the automatic promotion places, and six points above seventh placed Norwich.
Monk now takes his side to Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town on Saturday, with three points enough to see the Yorkshire giants leapfrog Reading if they lose to Huddersfield.
