Gary Lineker, Jordan Henderson react to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool message

Trent Alexander-Arnold has taken to social media to put a stop to all the rumours circulating about his future at Liverpool.

The incredibly talented full-back joined Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk in potentially leaving Anfield at the end of the season on free transfers, with the latter two signing extensions in recent weeks.

Alexander-Arnold has long been linked with Real Madrid, leaving the Reds on a free transfer after lifting a second Premier League title, but the news has left supporters with a sour taste in their mouths.

While the majority of fans are just emotional to see one of their most established academy graduates depart, some have slammed the defender for leaving for free rather than being sold for profit.

Despite some criticism, the 26-year-old has poured his heart out on social media, clearly understanding the gravity of his decision at Anfield.

Trent Alexander-Arnold announces Liverpool exit

Taking to Instagram (5 May), Alexander Arnold wrote: “After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season.

“This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life. I know many of you have wondered why or been frustrated that I haven’t spoken about this yet, but it was always my intention to keep my full focus on the team’s best interests, which was securing No.20.

After speaking about his time at Anfield, the right-back signed off by saying: “I’ve been blessed enough to live out my dreams here and I will never, ever take for granted the special moments I’ve been fortunate enough to have lived through with you all.

“My love for this club will never die.”

His announcement gained plenty of attention, with Arsenal legend Ian Wright commenting: “Written yourself into the history of your childhood club. Beautiful. All the best, wishing you and your family nothing but success.”

Roberto Firmino and Gini Wijnaldum both liked the post, joined by the legendary figure, Gary Lineker.

Jordan Henderson also replied: “What a journey! Thank you for everything! Everyone knows what the club means to you, and your legacy will live forever. The scouser in our team!!

“Good luck with the next chapter. We will all be supporting you…” with praise and heart emojis.

Arne Slot ready for summer of change ahead of 2025/26 season

Football Insider verdict

Alexander-Arnold could just be the start of multiple exits ahead of the summer transfer window, even despite new deals for Salah and van Dijk, which are crucial moves from the club.

Darwin Nunez has been heavily linked with a Liverpool exit, and so too have Diogo Jota, Ibrahima Konate, Luis Diaz, Andy Robertson, and Federico Chiesa, who has failed to make any impact so far.

Alexander-Arnold will go down as a Liverpool legend.

Arne Slot has already lifted the Premier League title during his first season in England, but having been knocked out of the Champions League and FA Cup at early stages, supporters want more.

However, much of the squad is still the same one that Jurgen Klopp was working with, suggesting that a lot more is to come under the new manager once he makes a few signings.

It is clear that the Reds have not played quite how Slot would have wanted, but without a proper chance to shape the squad to his liking, excitement is already building ahead of the next season.
