Gary McCallister: This is the Radrizanni deal that won Leeds fans back

By Danny Wright

Gary McCallister believes that the deal that saw Leeds United reclaim ownership of Elland Road has seen the clubs’ fans get back onside.

Andrea Radrizzani has rung the changes at Leeds since earning full ownership in May, financing a major overhaul of the first-team and development sides as well as buying back the famous stadium in June after they had to sell in 13 years ago due to the club’s debt.

Ex-Whites player and manager McCallister has hailed Radrizzani for winning back the support of the fans, who were once again out in force on Saturday when they travelled down to Ashton Gate to see their side win 3-0 against Bristol City, making up most of the 24,000 in attendance.

“From the day that the new owners come in and bought Elland road back the fans have been turning up in their thousands,” said McCallister, who won the Divison One title with Leeds during his playing career, on BT Sport Score on Saturday afternoon.

The former Liverpool and Scotland player continued to rave about the Whites for how they bounced back to winning ways against Bristol City this weekend, ending a run of three straight defeats thanks to a Samu Saiz brace before Pierre-Michel Lasogga ended his personal drought.

“The positive reaction is fantastic,” he added.

“The last week or 10 days or so, there have been three defeats but it’s a great reaction.”

“I’d love to see them back in the Premier League.”

Leeds leapfrogged Bristol City with their three points on Saturday to get their season back on track after a bit of a slump that saw them slip from top of the Championship table down to sixth.

Christiansen’s side now sit XX in the standings and remain well in the mix to secure promotion this season, albeit being a very early stage of the campaign.
