George Campbell is interested in the possibility of moving to Celtic ahead of next season, sources have told Football Insider.

The West Brom centre-back is one of a number of candidates that the Bhoys are considering as potential reinforcements for their defence this summer, with a window of “massive changes” expected.

The USA international is also attracting interest from clubs in the Bundesliga and the English Championship, and Celtic are under no illusions that it could be a difficult deal for them to pull off.

However, Champions League qualification may hold the key for the Bhoys, with the 24-year-old keen to test himself at the highest possible level.

Celtic’s transfer plans are set to see them overhaul their squad alongside the appointment of a new manager this summer, and Campbell is already of huge interest to them ahead of the window.

Celtic’s chances of landing George Campbell are clear

Campbell caught the eye during his debut season in English football, as he turned in some positive displays for a West Brom side that struggled for several months across the middle of the campaign.

Nevertheless, the former CF Montreal man did enough to have several teams chasing his signature this summer, and it is understood that the interested parties in the Bundesliga and the Championship are currently better placed to sign him than Celtic.

That is due to the fact that West Brom value him in the region of £2.5million, according to CeltsAreHere, a figure which is likely to propel others to the front of the queue ahead of the Bhoys.

The American is among a number of options that are being considered at Celtic Park ahead of the window, but there is an acceptance that it may take a significant financial commitment in order to win the race for him.

Campbell started 33 games for the Baggies in the Championship this season, and his stock will only continue to rise if he keeps performing at a similar level in the coming years.

Bhoys eye swoop for new Premiership striker

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Celtic are “keeping tabs” on Barney Stewart, and have the Falkirk striker on their radar as a clear option to bolster their attack this summer.

The Glasgow giants are on the lookout for players who could come in to re-vitalise their attack for next term, and they have already identified the youngster as someone who has huge potential.

Stewart has hit eight goals from just 16 Premiership games this term, and that has proven enough to prompt interest from clubs across the Premiership and in the English Football League.

The 22-year-old has emerged as one of Scotland’s brightest up-and-coming stars over the course of the campaign, and he could yet be plying his trade at Parkhead next term.

Celtic pride themselves on trying to tie down the best Scottish talent around, and Stewart could become the next man that they tempt from elsewhere in the league.
