Georgios Giakoumakis: Pundit dazzled by one thing ‘brilliant’ Celtic player does to ‘perfection’

Alex McLeish has admitted Celtic fans have finally seen the best of Georgios Giakoumakis after a “brilliant” goalscoring display against Dundee.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, was blown away by the 27-year-old’s ability to time his runs to “perfection.

The Greece international netted a hat-trick to help the Bhoys seal a 3-2 win against the Dark Blues.

Prior to Sunday’s clash at Parkhead, he had netted just four times in 17 games.

McLeish admitted the centre-forward had looked “rusty” in previous appearances.

However, he was dazzled by the summer signing’s movement and instinct around the penalty box.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “We spoke about him earlier this season. He was a wee bit rusty and we never saw what he was really capable of until the weekend.

“To be honest, his finishing was brilliant. His nose for the mistakes against Dundee, when the Dundee goalkeeper flapped at it, he was right in there.

“He was in the right positions, his runs into the box and forays into the box were all timed to perfection that weekend.

“Let’s see if he can continue with that kind of form.”

Giakoumakis joined Celtic having scored 29 goals in 33 appearances for VVV-Venlo last season.

The hitman scored his first Celtic in October, but the Bhoys had to wait until January for his second.

Ange Postecoglou has also had the likes of Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi to call upon as centre-forwards role this term.

The latter of the Japanese pair currently tops the scoring charts at Parkhead with 16 goals across all competitions.
