Gerrard may have found new Ryan Kent at Aston Villa after unexpected development – Hutton

Alan Hutton has tipped Trezeguet to play a big role for Steven Gerrard after returning from injury for Aston Villa.

The former Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 27-year-old could emulate the performances Ryan Kent displayed under Gerrard’s stewardship at Rangers.

Trezeguet returned to the matchday squad for the first time since April on Saturday (11 December) after undergoing knee surgery.

He remained an unused substitute as the Villans slipped to a 1-0 defeat away at Liverpool.

Hutton suggested the winger’s immediate return to the matchday squad after one appearance for the under-23s shows Gerrard’s faith in him.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He’s obviously been out for a long period of time. I saw he played with the young boys and then he was straight back in.

“Gerrard obviously sees something that he likes. He (Trezeguet) is going to have to adapt. He does come in from out wide, he does like linking up and that is something that Gerrard looks to do with his team.

“You look at Ryan Kent, what he got out of him, how he wanted him to play. He was inside the pitch but also clever with the ball.

“I think that Trezeguet can do that. He’s got the ability and the technical awareness to do that.

“It will be interesting to see if he gets on the pitch and how he can cope with those tactics.”

Trezeguet has played 63 times for Villa so far, with nine goals and five assists under his belt.

He scored in his 60-minute cameo for the under-23s against Birmingham last week (6 December).
