Gerrard targets 36-year-old as Rangers overhaul intensifies – France Football
By Richard Parks
Steven Gerrard could appoint Rangers youth coach Gregory Vignal to his backroom staff, according to a report.
France Football claim the former Gers and Liverpool left-back is in line for a quickfire promotion following the appointment of Gerrard last Friday.
It is said that the new Rangers manager is looking to add Vignal, 36, to his staff, that also includes No2 Gary McAllister and Michael Beale.
Football Insider verdict:
Unsurprisingly, Gerrard is assembling a backroom staff with strong Liverpool connections. He also wants his coaching allies to know the Scottish game. Vignal ticks both boxes. He spent a season on loan at Rangers from Liverpool and is best remembered by Gers fans for scoring in a 2-0 win at rivals Celtic. The Frenchman rejoined the club in January as an academy coach, cutting his teeth at the Under-13s to Under-15s age groups, and has a growing reputation for his technical work. Beale has also made his name at youth-team level, managing Liverpool Under-23s with great success and helping to develop outstanding youngsters like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Woodburn, Rhian Brewster and Harry Wilson. Gerrard needs men around him he can trust, who are well connected and have had experience and success at developing players. Rangers don’t have the budget to sign stars, as Dave King made clear yesterday. It is all about making the most of the resources available.
