Gilmour backed to U-turn on Norwich move and sign for Rangers after update - pundit
Noel Whelan has backed Billy Gilmour to make an eleventh hour U-turn on a move to Norwich City – and join Rangers instead.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United and Aberdeen striker claimed a loan spell at Ibrox would be “hugely beneficial” for the 20-year-old.
Sky Sports reported on 28th June that Norwich are closing in on the signing of Gilmour on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.
Ibrox sources told Football Insider on 19th June that the Scotland centre-midfielder is also of interest to Steven Gerrard’s side and the latest is that interest is still alive.
Whelan believes Gerrard and Gary McAllister could greatly enhance Gilmour’s game.
“If you ask any player right now whether you would like to go to a newly-promoted side in Norwich or a title-winning Rangers side who are playing in the Champions League? It’s a no-brainer,” he told Football Insider.

“He could learn off two of the greatest midfielders to ever grace the Premier League in Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister if he went to Rangers. It would be hugely beneficial for him.
“He should go to there instead of Norwich. Gerrard could bring so much to his game.
“If the option is there, I think it would be really hard for Gilmour to turn down.
“He would be adored by the fans up there. He would be a real asset to them next season because he is a fantastic young player. Gilmour is a gem, a diamond.”
