Giorgos Giakoumakis: English pundit ‘wowed’ by Celtic striker after ‘amazing’ reveal
Noel Whelan has hailed Celtic a “joy to watch” after their “amazing” recent goalscoring exploits.
The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted Ange Postecoglou will be “so pleased” to see his signings “making an impact” in front of goal – and singled out Giorgos Giakoumakis for praise.
Giakoumakis scored a hattrick in the 4-0 rout of Ross County on Saturday (19 March), meaning the 27-year-old has now netted eight goals in eight league starts.
All three of Postecoglou’s striker signings (Giakoumakis, Kyogo Furuhashi, and Daizen Maeda) are averaging more than 0.5 goals per league game since arriving (per FBRef).
Celtic have netted 25 goals in their last 10 Scottish Premiership games, while title rivals Rangers have managed just 18.
Whelan suggested Postecoglou’s shrewd transfer business could make the difference this term.
“The thing that’s impressed me about Celtic this season is that the goals are coming from all over the place,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“To have players who can go out and bag a hattrick like Giakoumakis and have all these players able to come off the bench and score goals – wow, it’s amazing.
“Scoring goals wins you games, and Celtic have added a number of goalscorers to their side because the manager knows just how important it is.
“Their style of play suits that as well – they create so many chances, and they’re just so clinical in front of goal at the minute.
“It’ll be so pleasing for Postecoglou to see these players he’s brought in really make an impact in his first season.
“They’re a joy to watch going forward.”

Celtic lead Old Firm rivals Rangers by three points atop the Scottish Premiership.
The two sides face off after the international break (3 April).
