‘Glad’, ‘We move on’ – Rangers fans react as major summer deal collapses
Rangers’ bid to sign Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel has reportedly collapsed with the two sides miles apart on the finances of the deal – and Gers fans think the Light Blues have made the right decision to walk away with the deal reported to be costing £5million and £60,000 per week in wages.
According to the Daily Record, Skrtel’s agent Karol Csonto has claimed a deal is now “impossible” for the 33-year-old to be reunited with his former Anfield team-mate Steven Gerrard as he builds his side ahead of taking charge on June 1st.
Gers fans insist the Ibrox hierarchy have got it right, as well as dismissing theories that it was all a publicity stunt to sell season tickets – with one saying the Light Blues have been “stung too many times in the past” signing veterans on big wages.
Here are some of their comments on Twitter:
Gerrard has already secured the signings of Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy ahead of officially starting work at Ibrox next week.
The Liverpool icon’s first competitive game as Rangers manager will come on July 12th when they kick off their Europa League qualifying campaign.
With Russell Martin expected to leave at the end of his loan deal and David Bates heading for Hamburg after agreeing a pre-contract, the Light Blues will need to add defenders to the squad over the summer.
