Glasgow expert lambasts Ross Wilson after latest – ‘he’s cost Rangers money’

Frank McAvennie has claimed Ross Wilson has “cost Rangers money” by allowing them to sign John Souttar.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said Wilson is trying to “cover his own back” in defending the arrival of Souttar.

Speaking at Rangers AGM, as quoted by the Scotsman(6 December), Wilson said the club were aware of the 26-year-old’s injury track record but they believe they can “sort it out”.

He added that the Light Blues also needed to ensure they had enough Scottish players in the squad to meet European regulations.

The centre-back played one competitive fixture for the Gers before undergoing surgery on a pre-existing problem.

The summer arrival has not featured for the Bears since his debut against Livingston on 30 July.

Souttar put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the club when he made the switch from Hearts in the summer.

When asked if Rangers fans should be worried, McAvennie told Football Insider:

I think Wilson is trying to cover his own back,” he told Football Insider.

It did not take instincts to work out that he has got injury problems.

Rangers

He is a good player but he was not playing all the time for Hearts and they were not playing in Europe. They were out of the cup early so they were only playing once a week.

If they had found out he was still on the treatment table they should have tried to get out of the deal. He has just cost Rangers money.
