Glasgow pundit shares verdict on Celtic signing Scott McTominay amid ‘£40m’ claim

Man United star Scott McTominay could cost Celtic £40million.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Premier League defender Alan Hutton insisted McTominay will have better options than the Hoops if he is to leave Old Trafford this summer.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Parkhead and speculation has ramped up since Jota’s £25m Saudi Arabia move which has given the Celts extra cash to play with this summer.

The midfielder has just under two years left on his contract with the Red Devils but there is growing uncertainty over his future under Erik ten Hag.

On 26 May, Football Insider revealed that the Scotland international has told friends he wants to leave United this summer for the good of his career.

West Ham, Newcastle United and Everton are some of the Premier League sides interested in McTominay who could cost “in excess of £20m”, as previously revealed by Football Insider.

Hutton can’t see Celtic joining the competition for McTominay’s signature.

As soon as the window opens you see some crazy things,” he told Football Insider.

I think we are talking about a £40m player. A guy that probably does not want to leave Man United and is probably capable of fighting for his place there.

Celtic

This is no disrespect to Scottish football or Celtic but the options he will have there [in England] will be teams like Newcastle who are in the Champions League, going for top four, that sort of stature of club.

If he was to leave I think he will have a lot options.
