‘Good Business’ – Exclusive: Pundit excited by Sky’s West Ham transfer reveal
Signing Said Benrahma from Brentford for £20million-plus is “good business” by West Ham, according to Michael Brown.
The former Premier League midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, believes the Bees loanee has shown enough improvement and quality since moving to the top flight to warrant the big-money fee on his head.
As reported by Sky Sports on Wednesday, the Irons have triggered the 25-year-old’s contract clause of £20million-plus-add-ons to turn his temporary move permanent, which in turn frees up a domestic loan space at the London Stadium.
Football Insider understand the Hammers are in pole position to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United until the end of the season after Sheffield United pulled out of the race.
Brown believes Benrahma has shown his quality in his 13 appearances for West Ham and insisted he would only get better by continuing to play regularly at the London Stadium.
Asked if he thought Benrahma had done enough to justify the £20million-plus fee, Brown told Football Insider: “It’s good business for a talented player like that.
“He’s improving in a good-going West Ham side and they’re going to benefit from having Benrahma in their team – what he can unlock, the way he gets into good positions.
“I think it’s a sensible signing and I’m sure it was done anyway.”
Benrahma has started six times in 12 Premier League appearances to date, with two assists to his name so far.
He scored 30 times and chipped in with a further 27 assists in his 94 games for Brentford.
