Graham Potter derby: West Ham and Wolves fans want loss and manager sack

West Ham and Wolves fans are in the rare situation of both wanting the other side to win their upcoming clash which is tipped to see the loser’s manager sacked.

With reports that Julen Lopetegui and Gary O’Neil will stay until at least Monday (9 December), fans have named the upcoming clash “El Sackico,” a playful twist on La Liga’s El Clasico.

Both clubs are pursuing Graham Potter as their next head coach and Wolves have already had discussions.

However, Football Insider exclusively revealed on Wednesday (4 December) that the former Brighton and Chelsea manager is now emerging as the leading contender to become West Ham’s next manager.

Sources then told Football Insider yesterday (5 December) that those talks with the 49-year-old have reached an advanced stage with the Hammers.

Wolves may have missed their chance with Potter. They are now reportedly considering David Moyes who looks like an “attraction option”. [The Mail]

West Ham and Wolves see humour as Julen Lopetegui and Gary O’Neil face exit

The Hammers lost 3-1 to the Foxes at King Power Stadium on 3 December. This heaps pressure on Lopetegui, who has managed just four wins since taking over from Moyes.

The Spaniard’s team are currently 14th in the Premier League, having won just four of their opening 14 games, shipping 27 goals in that time.

On the other hand, Wolves fans have turned on O’Neil after a crushing 4-0 defeat to Everton on 4 December.

O’Neil’s side has conceded the most goals in the Premier League this season. They’ve allowed 36 goals in just 14 matches, which is why they may look at the Scotsman to bring steel at the back.

Initially, many believed Potter would join one of these clubs before this weekend. However, both managers will remain in charge for at least one more game.

Fans from both sides have found humour in the situation. A West Ham supporter asked, “Can we both lose?” while another joked, “I hope you beat us!”

Some fans suggested renaming the game “The Graham Potter Derby.”
