Graham Potter ‘ready to take West Ham job’ as ‘dangerous’ plan revealed
Graham Potter is ready to take over as West Ham manager at any point, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the former Chelsea boss has been “holding out for a big job” and sees this as the right opportunity.
The 49-year-old has been out of the job for a long time having not managed a team since 2023 when his time at Chelsea was brought to an end.
Potter hasn’t been in a rush due to the severance pay he’s been earning from the Blues, but he is now waiting for the West Ham job to become available.
However, the Hammers are playing a dangerous game because Potter is also at the top of the list for a lot of clubs due to his Premier League experience.
Several managers in the English top flight are under pressure heading into the busy festive period due to poor results as teams look to make a change for the second half of the season.
Potter’s knowledge of the Premier League makes him a strong option to step in at any club, but West Ham are currently the top option for him.
Graham Potter brings a major positive for West Ham
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that current West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui is just one game away from the sack if he is unable to improve results at the London Stadium.
Potter is seen as an ideal option for the Hammers because he’s out of work at the moment, therefore he won’t cost any compensation to hire.
The Irons are sitting 14th in the Premier League table after the first 15 games of the campaign, having won five of them.
Lopetegui’s side are back in action on Monday (16 December) against Bournemouth.
