Graham Potter’s stance on joining Rangers revealed after West Ham sack

Rangers continue their pursuit of Russell Martin’s successor at Ibrox, and Graham Potter has emerged as one potential option.

Potter was sacked by West Ham in September following just eight months in charge, with Nuno Espirito Santo taking his position.

West Ham had to pay Potter £5million in compensation after relieving him of his duties so early into his contract, and now the 50-year-old is sounding out his next opportunity.

That could arise north of the border, with Rangers shortlisting the Englishman as one of their candidates to replace Martin.

How Graham Potter feels about the Rangers job

After Steven Gerrard rejected Rangers, the Ibrox hierarchy have multiple names on their radar, and one of those is former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl.

According to reports, Rohl is the frontrunner for the Rangers post, while Kevin Muscat, Michael Carrick and Potter are all being considered.

That being said, the Daily Record have now revealed that Potter is ‘unlikely’ to take the role at Ibrox, with the former Chelsea boss holding out for a different opportunity.

While Gerrard turning down the job hurt the majority of fans, Potter’s stance on taking over won’t negatively impact anyone associated with the club.

After all, his tenure at the London Stadium was disastrous, and he’s going to need to go a long way to repair his reputation.

Rangers manager search latest

Football Insider revealed on Monday, October 13, that Rangers want a new manager as quickly as possible, preferably before their clash against Dundee United on Saturday.

That has placed increasing pressure on the 49ers and Andrew Cavanagh to get the right candidate in, with supporters craving someone who boasts a winning mentality.

As it stands, it’s a two-horse race for the Rangers managerial role, with Muscat and Rohl set to battle it out, although other candidates will be spoken to in the next 48 hours.

Rangers must land on the correct appointment, though, as they can ill-afford to make the same mistake as they did with Martin.

Ultimately, patience within the fanbase is wearing thin, and that is why some are unsure about whether Rohl is the right candidate, considering his lack of experience at the highest level.
