Graham Roberts blasts Gary Neville on Twitter after Tottenham star omission

Tottenham great Graham Roberts has blasted Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville after he named Manchester City’s Leroy Sane instead of Dele Alli for the Young Player of the Season award.

A Sky Sports punditry team of Graeme Souness, Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, Niall Quinn, Alan Smith and Neville were all asked to name the youngster who has impressed them the most this season.

All, including former Arsenal duo Henry and Smith named Alli as the standout youngster, but Neville swayed from the majority and named City’s summer signing Sane.

The controversial omission naturally caught a lot of eyes and one of those was former defender Roberts, who labelled it “an absolute joke” on his personal Twitter account, while also claiming Alli is far ahead of other young talent.

Alli, 21, has been one of many stars in the Tottenham team this season, returning a brilliant 16 goals and six assists in 30 Premier League matches this season.

In comparison, Sane also 21 has returned just four goals and one assist in 19 league outings for Pep Guardiola’s team this campaign.

Both players are clearly talented and will only get better in the future, but the stats for this season are clearly in Alli’s favour.
