Phillips: Top stars will be queuing up to sign for Leeds after big development

Top stars will be pushing to sign for Leeds United this summer as they prepare to follow an exciting campaign with investment in the club on the back of the new San Francisco 49ers deal.

That is the view of former Sunderland and England striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the NFL Franchise increasing their minority stake in the Premier League club.

The Yorkshire club confirmed on 25 January that the 49ers had increased their stake in the club to 37 per cent, with Paraag Marathe also appointed as the club’s new vice-chairman.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the increased investment was announced, majority shareholder and owner Andrea Radrizzani revealed plans to build a new training ground and renovate the stadium.

Phillips also suggested that the club would have an increased transfer budget.

“It is always great to hear, especially as a manager, that there has been fresh investment,” he told Football Insider.

“Straight away Bielsa will be thinking, ‘Good, I can strengthen the squad and make the team even stronger.’

“They are heading in the right direction, Leeds.

“If they keep up their high levels of performance and remain in the Premier League, come the end of the season, they will be able to entice quality players.

“Players will have taken note of the way Leeds have played this season. I am sure there are many top players who are thinking, ‘I wouldn’t mind a piece of that.’ Especially given it should be a full Elland Road next season. The investment is great news.”
