‘Greed and corruption’ – Fans rage as Wolves in line for devastating points deduction
Fans are fuming that Wolves could become the latest club to face a “ridiculous” points deduction for Financial Fair Play breaches.
As revealed by Football Insider (11 January), the Molineux club are ‘dangerously close’ to breaching FFP rules when their 2022/23 accounts are released.
It is illegal for clubs to record losses in excess of £15million over a three-year period, but owner investment does extend acceptable losses to £105milion.
The club’s 2021/22 accounts revealed they made a net loss of £46.1million, while heavy spending in the 2022/23 transfer windows saw £152million invested into the first-team squad.
While this did force them to sell many first-team stars in an attempt to balance their books and keep in line with FFP obligations, well-placed sources revealed to Football Insider that Gary O’Neil’s side are “dangerously close” to breaking the regulations.
Everton were the last club to stomach a hefty sanction after their single breach was punished with a 10-point deduction in October.
Meanwhile, Man City have been accused of 115 breaches while Chelsea remain under investigation for potential violations during Roman Abramovic’s time at the club.
Fans are now getting fed up with the restrictive nature of FFP and the costly punishments that can be dished out if they are breached.
They have taken to social media in reaction to the latest news and many are questioning if the rules are really fair.
