Greg Taylor dismal as Daizen Maeda silver lining – Celtic ratings in Hibernian shock

Celtic were deservedly beaten 2-1 by a confident and exciting Hibernian side despite a second-half fightback.

Hibs took a shock lead in the second minute, after Nectarios Triantis played in Josh Campbell to give the home side the lead.

Campbell again proved to be the danger man, connecting to a Martin Boyle cross on the stroke of halftime to double Hibs’ goal tally.

Daizen Maeda gave his side a route back into the game, making the most of a goalkeeping error to poke home in the 68th minute.

Maeda looked to have equalised for the Bhoys in the 85th minute, but Alistair Johnston‘s cross was ruled to have gone out of play by VAR.

Hibernian‘s win over the Champions-elect was thoroughly deserved, as the Hoops looked off the pace and failed to capitalise on their chances.

Brendan Rodgers watches Celtic lose to Hibernian

Kasper Schmeichel – 5

Looked shaky and should have been more vocal in his organisation of his defence.

Alistair Johnston – 5

A willing runner and offered a danger going forward, was caught out of position a few times defensively.

Cameron Carter-Vickers – 4

He and Trusty looked panicked together and despite having formed a strong partnership this season, neither centre-back played well.

Auston Trusty caught out for Hibernian opening goal

Auston Trusty – 4

The American was caught massively out of position for Hibs’ opener and was poor for Celtic.

Greg Taylor (off for Schlupp 45′) – 3

Kieran Tierney is joining Celtic in the summer, and the Bhoy’s fans will be looking forward to having the Arsenal man join after Taylor’s performance. Booked for a reckless challenge before losing track of Campbell for the attacking midfielder’s second goal.

Luke McCowan (off for Hatate 45′) – 5

Subbed at half-time as Celtic struggled to breakthrough a stout Hibs.

Callum McGregor – 5

Created two chances but the final pass was often not good enough.

Arne Engels – 6

The record signing at Celtic Park was composed on the ball and fed his strikers well.

Nicolas Kuhn disappointing for Celtic

Nicolas Kuhn – 5

Newcastle are looking to sign Kuhn in the summer, however the German winger was disappointing and lacked the quality that is expected of him.

Adam Idah (off for Jota 45′) – 5

Idah was surprisingly linked with Arsenal in January, however the Irishman was feeding off scraps against Hibs, and was hooked at half-time.

Daizen Maeda – 7 – Player of the Match

Maeda appeared to be fouled in the build-up to Bayern Munich’s match-winner on Tuesday (18 February), the Japanese forward was tenacious and did not give up on a ball that seemed gone, scoring Celtic’s first.

Substitutes

Reo Hatate (on for McCowan 45′) – 7

Provided the assist for Maeda’s goal, energetic off the ball and creative on it.

Jeffrey Schlupp (on for Taylor 45′) – 6

The Ghanaian was a massive improvement over Taylor on the left-hand side.

Jota (on for Idah 45′) – 6

His introduction allowed Rodgers to move Maeda inside, the Portuguese winger showed flashes of his potential.
