Greg Taylor tipped to ‘totally transform’ after ‘delightful’ Celtic news confirmed – McAvennie

Frank McAvennie has claimed newest Celtic signing Alexandro Bernabei will improve Greg Taylor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Celtic striker said that competition will only help the club by providing extra competition for current left-back Taylor.

The Scottish champions announced (30 June) the signing of Bernabei, 21, on a five-year deal.

The left-back joined from Lanus in a deal worth £3.75million.

He becomes the first Argentinian in the club’s history to wear the Hoops.

When asked for his assessment of the latest, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Juranovic came in at right-back and it totally transformed Anthony Ralston because he’s now got competition.

“Now Greg Taylor’s got competition. That’s only a good sign for Celtic.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to have competition for places. If you’ve not got that then players can sometimes drop below standards.

“Through no fault of their own, it’s not that they want to, it’s just that if they’ve not got any competition they don’t have to play to as high a standard.

Competition’s great so I’m delighted the boy has confirmed and he’s coming in.

The left-back played just 15 games for the Argentinian top flight side last season.

He scored two goals and provided two assists for his former club.

Bernabei has also been capped for Argentina at the under-23 level.

Greg Taylor made 35 appearances for Celtic last season, scoring once and providing four assists.
