Guglielmo Vicario posts Tottenham update after fans destroy him

Guglielmo Vicario had an update for Tottenham supporters despite the criticism he’s faced in recent weeks over his performances.

Tottenham are currently gearing up for a daunting trip to Anfield, where Liverpool could seal the Premier League title with a win.

But for Spurs, the focus now seems firmly on the Europa League – their only realistic shot at silverware and European qualification this season.

Their recent league form has been disappointing, and Vicario came under fire from Tottenham supporters following a poor showing against Wolves on 13 April, where he conceded four goals. It’s the latest in a string of difficult moments for the Italian, whose relationship with the fans has been strained throughout the campaign.

Last month, Vicario publicly apologised to Tottenham fans after an incident at full-time in the Europa League first-leg loss to AZ Alkmaar, where his reaction drew backlash.

However, Vicario has now shared a message aimed at rebuilding that connection as the season enters a crucial final stretch.

Vicario has come under pressure this season

Tottenham fans back Antonin Kinsky to replace Guglielmo Vicario as pressure grows

The Italy international posted a photo on his Instagram story from last week’s Europa League victory over Frankfurt, appearing to reflect on the win as he and the squad applauded the travelling supporters.

With Spurs now set to face Bodo/Glimt in the semi-final, there’s a clear focus on Europe and arguably their only remaining bright spot in an otherwise underwhelming campaign. The mood in the camp seems hopeful, but that same confidence hasn’t extended to their goalkeeper.

Vicario has come under criticism several times this season, and fans have previously criticised his performances, calling for change between the sticks.

During his injury absence back in January, 22-year-old Antonin Kinsky stepped in and impressed, particularly in matches like the one against Liverpool.

That brief run sparked calls from Tottenham supporters for Kinsky to replace Vicario and to be given the starting role permanently. However, Ange Postecoglou has remained loyal to the Italy international despite the growing pressure.

Thomas Frank emerges as candidate to replace Ange Postecoglou

Despite Postecoglou guiding Spurs to a European semi-final, his position remains under scrutiny with the team languishing in 16th place in the Premier League.

Football Insider revealed Brentford boss Thomas Frank is being considered as a potential successor to Postecoglou if results don’t improve amid the feeling he will leave at the end of the season

For now, Postecoglou’s attention will be firmly on the club’s upcoming clash with Liverpool, where they’ll be desperate to avoid deepening what’s already been a frustrating season.
