‘He ticks a lot of boxes’ – Guillem Balague shares update on Barcelona interest in Everton senior man
By Aramide Oladipo
Sky Sports Spanish expert Guillem Balague has revealed that the hierarchy at Barcelona aren’t convinced about Ronald Koeman as their next manager.
Luis Enrique announced his decision to leave the Camp Nou at the beginning of March and since then, there have been rumours that Catalonia is Ronald Koeman’s next destination.
Koeman was an essential part of Barcelona’s 1992 Dream Team managed by football legend Johan Cruyff and it was his goal that sealed Barcelona’s first ever European Cup in a 1-0 win over Sampdoria at Wembley Stadium.
Following a season without a trophy under Tata Martino during the 2013/14 campaign, Barcelona are more inclined to be interested in managers who have been part of the Camp Nou setup in the past.
With this in mind, while writing for his weekly column on the Sky Sports website, Guillem Balague has revealed that Koeman isn’t currently on Barcelona’s radar.
“He ticks a lot of boxes for Barcelona, but a lot of people at the club are not convinced fully about him taking over, even though he gave an interview to a Catalan newspaper with the idea of positioning himself for the job.” he stated.
This will be music to the ears of Everton fans as Koeman has been successful this season securing his side a top seven finish.
The Toffees welcome Watford to Goodison Park for the final home game of the season on Friday night and they finish the campaign with a tough looking match against Arsenal at the Emirates.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are monitoring a potential signing for the summer transfer window.
