‘Gutted’ – Brendan Rodgers details update on Celtic attacker injury blow

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed he is upset at the injury suffered by attacker Jonny Hayes and has updated that the summer signing has had his operation.

Rodgers saw the former Aberdeen winger stretchered off with a broken leg after an accidental collision with Josh Meekings in 2-0 win over Dundee earlier this week which would go on to rule him out for the rest of the season.

Rodgers also disclosed that Hayes seems to be taking the injury in his stride.

“We’re obviously gutted for Jonny because he’s really settled in over the past few months”, he said, as quoted by Celtic’s official website.

“He’s had the operation and it looks like he’ll be out for the rest of the season…I went to see him in the hospital after his operation, and he’s very philosophical about it all.

“But we’ll look after Jonny and get him back as quick as we can.”

Hayes has found it difficult to break into the Hoops’ first-team as he has been competing with the likes of James Forrest, Scott Sinclair and Patrick Roberts for a place in the team.

He had turned in good performances against Motherwell and Aberdeen recently though, and was making his third start in as many weeks in the game against Dundee when he suffered the injury.

Hayes will be particularly disappointed to miss the next game at Celtic Park, the Old Firm derby against Rangers.

The Hoops go into the game a massive 11 points ahead of their old rivals and will be looking for their second victory against them this season, following the 2-0 win at Ibrox in September thanks to goals from Tom Rogic and Leigh Griffiths.
