Hackett: Wolves denied clear penalty v Everton in incident missed by MOTD pundits on BBC

Keith Hackett is shocked Wolves weren’t given a penalty during Wednesday night’s clash with Everton.

The former Premier League referee, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Abdoulaye Doucoure’s handball should have been a penalty “every day” of the week.

During the game, Adama Traore flicked the ball up towards the penalty spot before Doucoure appeared to slap the ball out for a corner.

VAR did not look at the incident and Wolves were awarded a corner as protests were kept to a minimum.

A penalty would have given Wolves the chance to equalise after Richarlison’s second-half goal.

The incident wasn’t spotted on Match of the Day either, despite Hackett claiming it was an obviously wrong decision.

Hackett can’t believe VAR didn’t spot the infringement and claimed it was an easy decision for the referee to make.

“That’s a penalty kick. How has he not seen that?” Hackett asked Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“It’s like a push on the ball, absolutely a penalty.

“He’s used his left arm to propel the ball out of play. He’s extended his arm and brought his arm to ball.

“This is a classic VAR situation. So that is a penalty kick every day. An easy one.”

Everton won the game 1-0 as a Richarlison header settled the game early in the second half.

This leaves the Toffees with a chance of securing European football for next year on the final day of the season.
