Harry Kane delivers Tottenham verdict on title hopes

Harry Kane claims that there is a still a long way to go this season and that Tottenham will continue to do their bit to catch Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Antonio Conte’s side are nine points clear at the top of the table, with Spurs the nearest challenger in second and Manchester City a point further back in third.

The Blues are in a formidable position as they chase down the title and are the clear favourites for the crown.

However, Spurs are unbeaten in their last 11 games across all competitions and will believe they can still catch the runaway leaders.

England international Kane expects his side to continue fighting for the title and believes nothing is sealed yet, despite several people already convinced that Chelsea have the league wrapped up.

“We want to catch Chelsea and it’s important that we stay as high up the table as possible,” Kane said, as quoted by Sky Sports. “If we can build gaps over other teams behind us, that is the important thing.

“It is not down to us. We don’t know if Chelsea are catchable. All we can do is win our games. Hopefully they drop a few points here and there.”

He added: “Chelsea have that gap at the moment. But Liverpool dropped points against Hull, and Arsenal against Watford. It happens in the Premier League. There is a long way to go.”

Spurs recorded a narrow 1-0 home win against Middlesbrough on Saturday as Kane scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot.

The 23-year-old has been in sensational form this season for the north London club, scoring 16 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino will hope that the forward can continue his form as his team try to catch the title favourites Chelsea.

Spurs travel to Anfield in their next fixture to face Liverpool in the Premier League, who will be looking to bounce back after a surprising 2-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Hull.

In other Tottenham news, Pochettino should fast-track the club’s rising academy star.
