Tottenham’s Harry Kane has revealed that he tries to mimic the qualities of the club’s former striker Jermain Defoe.
The 23-year-old is currently the first-choice forward at Spurs and has emerged as a crucial player at White Hart Lane in recent seasons.
He is regarded as one of the best finishers in the Premier League and already has 15 goals across all competitions this campaign.
Kane has explained that he used to watch Defoe when he was young and hails him as one of the best natural finishers.
“I used to watch Jermain Defoe train here,” Kane told the Mail. “One of the very best. Shoot early. One touch. Through a defender’s legs. ‘He also knew the odds were in his favour just after he missed one as he knew he was unlikely to miss two. I try to mimic that.”
Defoe is regarded as one of the most clinical finishers in the Premier League and enjoyed a great time at Spurs, scoring 139 goals in 358 appearances for the north London club.
The Englishman is continuing to be an important player in the top-flight and has already struck 12 goals for relegation-threatened Sunderland this season.
Kane is the latest star striker to be scoring goals regularly for the club and his record suggests he can surpass Defoe in the near future.
The forward has made 148 senior appearances for Spurs and already scored 79 goals in return.
