Harry Kane shares verdict on Tottenham amid Lamela speculation

By Alex Stevens

Harry Kane has urged Erik Lamela to forget about quitting Tottenham by insisting “it would be stupid to leave now”.

Football site Squawka claim Argentina international Lamela is “homesick” and “unsettled in London” and pining for a move back to former club Roma.

Lamela responded to the speculation on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night by insisting that he is “missing White Hart Lane every minute” while he continues his rehabilitation in Italy from a hip injury that has sidelined him since October.

The 24-year-old stopped short of denying that he wanted to leave Spurs in the summer, something that Kane is convinced no ambitious senior player should look to do.

“I would be surprised if any of my team-mates were to leave now,” Kane said to Gazzetta dello Sport, as quoted by the Mail. “Something’s going on here, we’re just missing the last step: to win trophies.

“It would be stupid to leave now. We have one of the best managers in the world, perhaps the best. Soon there will be a new stadium. The future is promising.”

Spurs’ impressive young team, fashioned and moulded by manager Mauricio Pochettino, have emerged as genuine challengers for the Premier League title for the second consecutive season.

They have been in outstanding form either side of the new year, winning six of their last seven league fixtures in what is shaping up to be an even more impressive campaign than when they fell short in the title race against Leicester last season.

Tottenham suffered heartbreak to end up in third in 2015-16 but have already amassed more points at the equivalent stage of this campaign, in which they have qualified for the Champions League group stages for only the second time in their history.

Academy product Kane has emerged as the poster boy of the Spurs revolution, topping the Premier League goal charts last season and maintaining that form this season.

Despite missing nearly two months with ankle ligament damage, the England international has scored 13 goals in 17 league encounters this season.
