Harry Kane tipped to sign new Tottenham deal on one condition after journalist’s update – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Tottenham could convince Harry Kane to sign a new contract with “one or two” top-quality signings this summer.

The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 28-year-old would be willing to commit to a new deal if both his and Antonio Conte’s ambitions are matched.

As reported by The Athletic’s David Ornstein on Monday (21 February), Tottenham are not planning on opening talks over a new deal and the ball is in the striker’s court if he wants discussions to take place.

Kane’s ambition is reportedly to win trophies at Spurs and he would be willing to commit to a new deal if he believes that is achievable.

However, Ornstein claims any talks are unlikely to take place before the summer.

Hutton suggested the Lilywhites’ transfer activity would determine if Kane chooses to open discussions.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s a bit of a strange one that Tottenham are going to him and saying: ‘Right, the ball’s in your court. If you decide (to stay), then we’ll speak.’

“Normally it’s the club that comes to the player first and this is our plan for the future. This is what we want to do.

“If Tottenham as a club match his ambition moving forward, as well as Antonio Conte’s, I think it could work.

“If they add to that squad, which is obviously a very good one, if they add one or two bits of quality, I think they can be a force.

“Then Kane will be happy to tie himself down to a longer contract.”
