Harry Maguire breaks silence after Man United news with Luke Littler message

Harry Maguire has broken his silence after it was confirmed his contract at Man United will be extended, with a message to darts ace Luke Littler.

The centre-back was set to be out of contract at the end of this season, but manager Ruben Amorim confirmed on Friday (3 January) that an option to extend that deal by 12 months will be taken up.

Maguire has now taken to social media for the first time since that was confirmed, to send his support to Luke Littler.

The 17-year-old took the world by storm when he reached the final of the PDC World Darts Championship on debut 12 months ago, attracting him the attention of other football stars as well.

Having reached the final again this year, Maguire was keen to show his support for the Red Devils fan ahead of his clash with three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen.

Taking to his Instagram page on the day of his contract extension, and the final, the 31-year-old posted a picture of Littler playing darts in a Man United shirt in front of Maguire and some of his teammates.

He then added a caption that read:”All the best tonight @lukethenukelittler”.

Harry Maguire contract extension is a big call for Man United

Football Insider Opinion

Given how hard he has found things in the past at Old Trafford, it previously would have been difficult to imagine Maguire extending his deal with the club.

Now though, it a move that could arguably make sense for Man United given he has been one of their more solid performers under Ruben Amorim.

Indeed he has won some considerable praise for some of his showings since the 39-year-old took charge of the Red Devils.

As a result extending his stay for another year could make sense, giving the club some extra time as they look to transition the squad into an image that will more suit their current boss.

He can perhaps offer Man United a sense of leadership and stability on the pitch in the tricky period they look set to endure as they go through those changes.

From the perspective of Littler meanwhile, receiving a message such as this from a player at his boyhood team will surely have given him a lift ahead of perhaps the biggest night of his life.
