Harry Maguire could quit Man United ‘very soon’ after ‘big’ development – pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed a host of top Premier League sides could move for Harry Maguire despite him struggling to nail down a starting berth at Man United.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested a “big decision” on the 29-year-old’s future will have to be made by Erik ten Hag “very soon”.
Maguire was benched for Man United’s derby win over Man City on Saturday (14 January), with natural left-back Luke Shaw the preferred to partner Raphael Varane.
The England international has made just eight Premier League appearances this season – including four starts.
Football Insider revealed on 9 January that Maguire is staying at Old Trafford this month after they rejected interest from Aston Villa.
He had been spotted at a restaurant near Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training ground last weekend, sparking speculation about him potentially joining the Midlands giants.
Maguire was signed from Leicester City for a reported then-world-record fee of £80million in 2019.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Harry Maguire is someone who doesn’t give up.
“He can take knocks and come back stronger. He has taken criticism from fans, from the media – and yet he delivered in the World Cup.
“But he’s struggling to get into this Man United side, and I think a big decision is coming.

“I think Ten Hag is going to make his mind up on him very soon. I don’t think it will be a loan signing, it will likely be a permanent signing – if Ten Hag believes he is surplus to requirements.
“I don’t think there would be any clubs out there who wouldn’t consider a move for him. He can do a job at a very high level.”
