Harry Maguire could return to Man United XI amid ‘big’ Raphael Varane claim – pundit
Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed Harry Maguire could return to the Man United starting XI in place of Raphael Varane in the near future.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa striker suggested Varane’s injury record is a “big” concern.
Maguire, 29, was an unused substitute in the Red Devils’ win over Liverpool on Monday night (22 August).
The England international started for Erik ten Hag’s side in losses against Brighton and Brentford.
Varane partnered summer signing Lisandro Martinez in the heart of the defence against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
When asked if Maguire will struggle to get back in to the starting XI, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Charlotte Cohen: “I think the big thing for me is that Varane always has injury problems.
“I feel like Maguire could be in for a couple of games because Varane can’t keep fit.

“I would not really worry about it that much. I do feel like on Monday night Varane and Martinez looked decent together. But they were playing against [Roberto] Firmino who didn’t really run in behind, [Luis] Diaz and [Mohamed] Salah weren’t really running in behind too much.
“You can’t go off one game. Let’s see what Man United are like after the next three games defensively before making a judgement. Get a big physical striker in on Martinez and see what he’s like. I am sure Maguire will not be panicking.“
