
Harry Maguire posts ‘heartbreaking’ tribute to Diogo Jota
Harry Maguire is the latest player to react to the heartbreaking news of Diogo Jota’s tragic passing.
The Manchester United defender has joined the likes of James Maddison and Jurgen Klopp in paying tribute to Jota following the devastating news that shook the football world.
It was confirmed that the Portugal international died in a car accident in the early hours of 3 July, alongside his younger brother, Andre Silva. The crash happened in Spain, with both victims sadly losing their lives at the scene.
Jota had been a key figure for Liverpool, playing a major role in their Premier League title-winning campaign last season, contributing 13 goals and assists.
Maguire has now joined the growing list of players, clubs and supporters sending their condolences and sharing their memories of Jota following the tragic news.

Maguire shared a heartfelt tribute to Jota and his brother Andre Silva, posting multiple images of the pair on his Instagram story. Alongside the pictures, he simply wrote: “So sad. Rest in peace. Heartbreaking.”

While Maguire never played alongside Jota, he will no doubt remember the Portuguese forward’s hat-trick against him during his time at Leicester in 2019.
Since Jota’s move to Liverpool in 2020, he continued to find the net in matches against Maguire, scoring in Liverpool’s emphatic 5-0 victory over United during the 2021/22 season, as well as in the 4-2 win at Old Trafford the season prior.

Diogo Jota’s impact remembered after tragic loss
Jota played a vital role in Liverpool’s success over recent seasons, winning every major domestic trophy, including the Premier League title, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
The 28-year-old made 182 appearances for the Reds, scoring 65 goals and registering 26 assists across all competitions.
Maguire’s tribute was joined by an official message from Manchester United, posted on X, which read: “Our deepest condolences are with the loved ones of Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre, and everyone connected with Liverpool FC following today’s heartbreaking news.”
Cristiano Ronaldo also shared his own emotional message to Jota, having recently played alongside him as Portugal lifted the Nations League for the second time.
Before Jota’s move to Anfield, he made a lasting impression at Wolves, helping them secure promotion to the Premier League, and enjoyed spells at both Porto and Atletico Madrid.
In Portugal, Porto have already honoured their former player with a billboard outside the stadium, as tributes from across the footballing world continue to pour in on what has been a tragic day for the sport.
