Harry Maguire: Pundit ‘can’t believe’ latest Man United dressing room twist
Paddy Kenny has defended Harry Maguire amid fresh reports on him potentially losing the Man United captaincy.
The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the defender isn’t the only underperformer at Old Trafford.
Maguire, 28, took to Twitter on Friday morning to shoot down reports about a power struggle between himself, Ralf Rangnick and Cristiano Ronaldo.
As quoted by Sky Sports on Tuesday (15 February), Rangnick admitted Maguire has had “weaker moments” in recent games but insisted he would not be stripped of the captaincy.
Before Man United beat Brighton on Tuesday (15 February), Rangnick’s side had surrendered a 1-0 lead in the previous three games with Maguire slammed by fans on social media.
Kenny feels sorry for Maguire and criticised the timing of these fresh reports.
“This is all rubbish that Man United don’t need out there,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“How true these stories are, we don’t know. There is so much crap that gets thrown around, you can’t believe it.
“It’s come at a bad time for Maguire, he will hold his hands up and say he hasn’t been at his best this season.
“But who has at Man United? It’s not just him. I feel like it’s only Maguire who gets blamed.
“A lot of players there need to look at themselves in the mirror. They are massively underachieving considering the players they have.
“The last thing Man United need and it frustrates me that Maguire is somehow always to blame.”

Man United rose to fourth in the Premier League with their 2-0 win over Brighton.
Goals from Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes proved to be the difference against the Seagulls.
