Harry Maguire sends message to Man United fans in new Man City dig
Man United defender Harry Maguire has celebrated the dramatic derby victory over Man City with a post on social media.
The Red Devils triumphed over their fierce rivals, Manchester City at the Etihad with an 90th-minute winner. Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo sealed the 2-1 win.
Despite being 13th, United’s victory also highlighted Pep Guardiola’s team’s struggles, leaving them with just one win in 11 matches.
Maguire, who has had a mixed start under Ruben Amorim, started in the derby. After the match, he posted on Instagram to dedicate the victory to the fans. His post featured a gesture to the away supporters and read: “For the fans – Manchester is red”, accompanied by red emojis.
He followed up on Monday (16 December) morning with another post, featuring a photo from the away end, likely showing his family in the crowd. The caption read: “Happy Monday”.
Man United still a mixed bag under Ruben Amorim
Football Insider opinion
Despite trailing 1-0 with three minutes left and suffering yet another injury setback, United delivered a devastating blow to their city rivals.
The Manchester club have won four, lost two, and drawn one in Amorim’s first seven games at Old Trafford. The Portuguese manager has already shown he isn’t afraid to make bold decisions, exemplified by the omission of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho ahead of the derby.

Under Amorim’s leadership, players like Maguire and Diallo have found a new lease of life. The 31-year-old had a standout performance in the derby, recording three clearances, five interceptions, 100% ground duels won, and three tackles [SofaScore].
Making big calls early in a managerial career can be risky, as it might alienate players. However, his decisions have been vindicated.
The derby win reinforces his authority, and now, whatever decisions he makes, the players must back him because the results speak for themselves.
