Harry Maguire: This may be the real reason for Man United struggles after manager’s confession – pundit
England’s Euro 2020 campaign could be taking its toll on Man United captain Harry Maguire, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Arsenal striker, speaking to Football Insider, insisted the 28-year-old is “not the only one” underperforming at Old Trafford as criticism grows of the defender’s performances.
Maguire has faced a number of calls for him to be stripped of the Man United captaincy.

As quoted by Sky Sports (15 February), manager Ralf Rangnick said he “sees no reason” to change captains despite the former Leicester star displaying “some weaker moments” in recent games.
Campbell suggested England’s Euro 2020 campaign last summer (2021) may be playing a part in Maguire’s poor form.
“I think he’s done alright this season,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“After the Euros, I don’t think there have been many England players who have kept those same levels consistently – apart from Declan Rice.
“Everyone has dipped, and that can happen.
“He’s big enough and strong enough to take the flack. Flack will come your way when you’re at Man United and you’re not performing to the best of your ability – but he’s not the only one.
“If you ask Harry Maguire, he’ll be the first to admit that he’s not performing to the best of his ability.
“He’ll be working his socks off behind the scenes to get those levels back up – because Man United need him. Raphael Varane hasn’t turned out to be the partner they wanted for him either, which won’t help.”
Maguire missed the first two matches of last summer’s tournament with an ankle injury.

However, he played the entirety of every other game for defeated finalists England.
Man United have kept just six league clean sheets this term.
