Hartson: This is what I would be telling Celtic 20-year-old if I was his agent

By Derek Smithson

John Hartson has stated that if he was the agent of Celtic youngster Moussa Dembele then he would be advising him to stay with the Scottish champions for another season.

The 20-year-old striker has become one of the most exciting upcoming talents in Europe after breakout year with the Bhoys last season.

He only moved to Brendan Rodgers’ side last season and hit top form as Celtic clinched a domestic treble in unbeaten fashion.

The form of the France Under-21 international has seen him linked with a transfer and Sky Sports have reported that Italian club AC Milan have begun talks about a potential move to the San Siro.

Hartson believes that Dembele should ignore interest in his signature and stay where he is to help his own development.

“The fans really take the players to their hearts and he’s got that at Celtic Football Club,” Hartson said, as quoted by Sky Sports. “He’s young and I personally feel, if I was his agent or advisor, he would benefit massively from having another season at Celtic.

“He would score lots more goals and get the chance to play in Europe. I think even the buying clubs would also benefit from Moussa having another season at Celtic, but I am not his agent.”

Dembele was in great goalscoring form last year and became an ever-present in the starting XI, even overtaking Scotland international Leigh Griffiths in the pecking order.

The forward made 49 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring 32 goals ands suppling nine assists in return.

He has enjoyed a meteoric rise since graduating through Fulham’s academy and is being tipped to continue right to the top.
